Talk:Testing stars

As my recent experiences show, lighting a star on the ground is not a good way to evaluate star colour and performance. The statement in the text should be removed I think. /Admiral

What did your experiences entail? Just wondering, I took the liberty of changing that line, thank you for the helpful suggestion +1.

I have had a larger star that wasn't correctly made turn into a scud-missile of sorts, so i agree, testing on a just a solid surface can be hazardous :)

Now i use a small metal bucket to test--it doesnt melt, wont shatter, and is solid enough to hold the shell undergoing testing.

Stars should be tested in a star gun, battery, mine etc. to see how they actually perform in the sky. Even doing so there can be differences in colour perception: shells generally explode "far" away, where the star does not necessarily show the same colour he did when watched standing next to a star gun. See Shimizu on colour for more info. Furthermore some stars "rely on" the conditions (airflow, cooling etc,) in the sky and will not adaquately perform when lit on the ground (e.g. glitter mixes, "underoxidised" star comps etc.) /Admiral
